Daniel Carthew
Director of Retirement Plan Services, CWA
Account Executive, RJFS

As Crux’s resident retirement plan expert, Dan specializes in helping business owners and individuals set a course for success utilizing their retirement plans. He serves as the primary point of contact for plan sponsors, focusing on plan design assistance, investment due diligence, customized employee education, and ensuring plan sponsors meet their fiduciary responsibilities. Dan has been the Director of Retirement Plan Services since 2015 and joins Crux as part of its first Chicago office.

Dan takes a proactive and detail-oriented approach with each of his clients. He understands that retirement plans are highly complex, time-consuming, and their management comes with tremendous liability. Dan aims to reduce his client’s burden, which can often be associated with sponsoring a qualified plan, allowing the business owner to prioritize their business. Additionally, he collaborates with our team to help design qualified plans that maximize the owner’s benefits, while also helping their employees achieve their retirement goals.

Investments and the financial industry started as an interest of Dan’s, dating back to a high school economics project where he created a portfolio of stocks to track performance. This high school interest in investments later matured into his passion after witnessing the impact of financial decision making and hardships endured by those close to him during the 2008 market crash. He decided that he wanted to dedicate his profession to helping others with their financial choices and began his career in the financial industry a year later after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Economics.

Dan brings over 10 years of experience and is committed to developing himself professionally by earning the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor designation and the Series 6 and 63 licenses. He looks to continue his industry education by achieving additional designations.

Dan Carthew

When I am not in the office, most of my time is dedicated to raising my daughter, Olivia, who my wife, Amy, and I welcomed into the world in 2020. She is the joy of our lives and our priority, especially as she changes and grows so much in these early years.

Amy and I love to travel. Whether it’s flying across the ocean to visit a new destination or exploring the hidden gems of Chicago, we’re always looking for a new adventure. Amy and I hope to instill our love of travel in our daughter, and we look forward to exposing Olivia to new experiences and cultures as she grows up.
